Tiger Bomb Sugar Buzz – Their Second Album Out Now on Dionysus Records!

Tiger Bomb Sugar Buzz LP – Out Now! exclusively on Dionysus Records ID:1233177

With their long-awaited second album, Tiger Bomb Sugar Buzz contains 15 original garage-pop songs featuring tight harmonies, ferocious guitars, and a high-energy attitude, recorded by David Minehan (The Replacements, Neighborhoods) at Woolly Mammoth Sound and mastered in NYC at The Lodge by the award-winning team of Emily Lazar (My Morning Jacket, Foo Fighters, Haim) and Chris Allgood (Vampire Weekend, Coldplay). Special ‘Joshua Tree’ cover-art by Mort Todd (Cracked Magazine, Marvel Comics). Liner notes are by esteemed Boston rock-music journalist Brett Milano (Vinyl Junkies: Adventures in Record Collecting); singer, model & author Bebe Buell (Rebel Heart), and popular international radio personalities Mike Rogers (#1 show in Japan) and Glynis Ward (The Girl Group Girl on Crayons To Perfume, WFMU).–

Inside the bold and bright packaging, you’ll find 15 fresh and exciting songs that are currently creating a buzz across the land – a sugar buzz that is! These four fab femmes rock hard, but make no mistake, Tiger Bomb knows their way around a good pop song. Inspired by the glittery sounds of sunshine pop, Sugar Buzz is full of catchy hooks & harmonies that’ll have you singing along in no time. These warm & fuzzy treats have a deep rich filling, coated with powerful guitars, melodic bass lines, and driving drums, for a thrill-packed listening experience with some of the most playable sounds around today! This LP is a follow-up companion piece to their debut, Uproar, also available on Dionysus Records (ID1233166), so be sure to complete your collection while supply lasts.

Josie Cotton Invasion of the B-Girls on Dionysus Records!

Dionysus Records has released its first LP in two years, Josie Cotton Invasion of the B-Girls!

A collection of theme songs and featured tunes from a variety of exploitation films from the ’60s and ’70s, Josie Cotton Invasion of the B-Girls is a one-of-a-kind album. The LP boasts liner notes from director John Waters, who knows more about this film genre than anyone. His own song, “Female Trouble,” (from the film of the same name) is prominently featured. The track features the TOWER OF POWER horns; other featured musicians throughout include David Kendrick (DEVO, SPARKS), Paul Roessler (SCREAMERS, TWISTED ROOTS), Geza X, Kenny Lyon, and many others.

While the movies that are highlighted are often considered low-budget affairs, the production value of these versions takes many of these numbers to a new level. Among the songs on the LP are “Maneaters (Get off the Road)” from Herschell Gordon Lewis’ female biker flick She-Devils on Wheels, “Run Pussy Cat” from Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! And “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls,” both Russ Meyer exploitation classics. The theme songs from The Girl in Gold Boots, Green Slime, and Black Klansman (the Ted V. Mikels film, not Spike Lee’s) are all on board and delivered with expected Josie panache. Two songs from the giant Japanese monster genre, “Goodbye Godzilla” and “Shiawaseo Yobou” are also lovingly rendered.

Video: Primal Teenage Garage – The Untold Fables 1985!

This just popped up, it was from the sole Dionysus video release called The Obnoxious Rock ‘n’ Roll Hour, released on VHS way back in ’86 or so. The Untold Fables perform their song “Rockhead” for a very enthusiastic crowd at Safari Sams in Orange County, CA. 1985. Dig it!

Santa's Got a GTO

One time Dionysus co-pilot and forever Dionysus friend Aime McCrory wrote a beautiful post today about a long out-of-print album from the label’s catalog. This inspired me to create a FREE download of the compilation, artist and track listing, plus download link below. Thanks Aime!

Santas Got a GTO

As holiday times approach, a fond memory comes to mind. In 1997, as part of Dionysus Records, I had the privilege of co-producing Rodney on the Roq’s Santa’s Got A GTO album for dear friend, Rodney Bingenheimer, with rock writer and publicist at the time Harvey Kubernik. Rodney’s mom had just passed away, and Harvey and I, who had worked together in the Kim Fowley days came up with an idea of doing a Christmas album to help raise funds for the property tax costs of his late mother’s estate. Some amazing bands wrote or contribute tracks including Nina Hagen, Jane Weidlan of the Go’sGo’s, The Ramonas and Evan Douglas Foster’s Boss Martians. Lee Joseph graciously green lighted the project and oversaw the production and the CD was released on Dionysus Records. We were blessed to have Mordam Records, the legendary indie distribution company and the support their senior staff, including the talented Michelle Gearhead Haunold and awesome Mike Jones behind the sales of the album. Jonathan L who was with Album Network and the Senior Editor of its sister publication, Virtually Alternative, gave us our first piece of mainstream press and we were all over the moon! While the CD didn’t raise the money any of us hoped for, the album was a project of love and brought together many wonderful and talents folks. Happy holidays and enjoy the music! – Aime McCrory

From Hawaii, The Alika Lyman Group delivers a heartfelt tribute to Alika’s Great Uncle, Arthur Lyman. This album spans the gamut of vintage combo jazz and classic Exotica, featuring original compositions and Hawaiian standards with instrumentation featuring vibes, stand-up bass, percussion and guitar!

ALG vibest, Marty Lush has strived to make the album jacket of Leis of Jazz Vol 2 as close to the original Leis of Jazz as possible including an exact repro of the Hi-Fi Records “Stereophonic Hi-Fi” sticker, and label that bears striking resemblance to the silver and black HIFI Records labels of the late ’50s! The first pressing is on purple orchard vinyl and the album comes with a free digital download!

Dionysus Records has released it’s first 78 RPM! Roots/exotica/rockabilly master Skip Heller returns to the imprint with Heller’s Hot 5, including Dionysus Records head honcho Lee Joseph on acoustic bass, delivering three smoking, blues-drenched tunes, recorded and cut live to mono tape by former Big Sandy and the Fly Rite Trio’s bassman, Wally Hersom, on all tube powered analog gear. This platter that matters is a limited edition vinyl microgroove 78, playable on anything that plays 78, including jukeboxes and the sound flying off this thing is super hi-fi! The release comes with a download card which includes bonus tracks- a digital version of down songs can be purchased from iTunes, Amazon, etc.

Dionysus Records announces the release of two hi-desert area artists on vinyl: Jesika von Rabbit ”Journey Mitchell” (Dionysus Records ID1233164) and Voodoo Organist “Organ Voodoo” (Dionysus Records ID1233160). Both artists will celebrate the release of their albums at the renown Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneertown on Thursday, July 9, and at BAR in downtown Palm Springs on Saturday, July 11. Albums and other merchandise will be available at both shows.

Winner of Best Front Woman at the 2015 Coachella Valley Weekly (CV Weekly) Music Awards, Jesika von Rabbit along with Todd Rutherford formed cult favorite Gram Rabbit releasing several well-received albums, netting a long list of television and film licensees, and playing successful string of shows including a main stage appearance at Coachella. Taking a break from Gram Rabbit and armed with a stockpile of songs celebrating her love of electronics, von Rabbit has created and released her first solo album;, a playful, poppy, and psychedelic ‘adult theme park-pop’ experience titled ”Journey Mitchell”.

“… Part pop princess parody, part desert gypsy, Jesika takes us on a strange trip. Journey Mitchell, is laden with new wave influenced synths, keyboard melodics and infectious dance beats… Jesika von Rabbit wants to penetrate and disturb you. The undercurrent of Gothic industrial baselines, ghostly echoes and Jesika’s hallowing voice, leaves resin in your system that will bewitch you long after the music fades.”- Coachella Magazine

“Organ Voodoo” is the exotic, hypnotic, erotic, and rhapsodic ninth album by Scott Wexton a/k/a Voodoo Organist in which he leaves behind the rough-edged blues, rock, punk, goth and vaudevillian industrial sounds of previous releases and sails into the seductive Space Age sounds of exotica. The album is influenced by his love of exotica, lounge, and space-age pop music and was inspired by artists such as Sir Julian, Enoch Light, and Martin Denny (who he shares a birthday with).

In the mid ’90s Wexton left his Detroit home for the Music City—Nashville, TN—to work with Amphetamine Reptile noise legends Today Is the Day. He eventually moved to California and ended up in the Mojave Desert. He began performing as the Voodoo Organist in 2001, has self-released several albums, and played over 800 shows nationwide to the delight of fans and press.

The first run of von Rabbit’s LP is pressed on clear vinyl and includes a vinyl only bonus track. The first run of Voodoo Organist’s LP is pressed on red vinyl. Both contain a free digital download. Dionysus Records is distributed by ILD www.ildistro.com.
