Jesika von Rabbit and Lee Joseph New Years’ Eve Dance Party at Red Dog Saloon, Pioneertown!
Jesika von Rabbit and producer Jessica Janos a/k/a The Jesicult have cooked up a fabulous holiday treat, a video for Jesika’s newly recorded electro cover of Elvis’s “Blue Christmas.” The Jesika von Rabbit Blue Christmas video is a psychedelic dreamscape, adorned with hand-selected and authentic Joshua Tree weirdos, and is Jesika’s first-holiday video since Gram Rabbit’s “California Christmas“.
Join Jesika, her bassist Lee Joseph, guitarist/singer Jason Nutter, his drumming brother Kohl Nutter, who Jesika teamed up with for the “Joshua Tree” video, and their friend Randy on guitar, at a pair of desert Holiday shows, featuring a set of Christmas tunes, cover tunes, and a special set of music from DJ Mele Kalikimaka!

With her second post-Gram Rabbit solo album in the can, Jesika von Rabbit hops into 2018 with her new songs and band, in Los Angeles, and her hi-desert home-base of Joshua Tree/Pioneertown. Expanding from a two-piece to four with former Gram Rabbit member and Silverlake area producer Ethan Allen on lead guitar, Boston transplant Dan Kashuck on drums and Lee Joseph on bass, the group, including a giant rabbit and dancers masked as former and current presidents, took the crowd by storm at last fall’s Desert Daze festival.

Born out of a desire to challenge themselves musically, Mariachi El Bronx is the alter ego of Los Angeles punk band the Bronx. Conceived in 2006, the idea came about when the Bronx were asked to play an acoustic set and, rather than simply pare down their sound, they took their music in a whole new direction, moving away from hardcore and exploring Latin sounds. The band worked on material for the new project while the Bronx toured, and in 2009, Mariachi El Bronx released their eponymous debut. True to the form of their main gig, the band members followed up with a second self-titled album in 2011. In 2014, the group returned with Mariachi El Bronx (III), which found them fusing synthesizers and electronics into their traditional mariachi sound.
Opening for Mariachi El Bronx: Creepxotica!
San Diego’s Creepxotica combines the more exotic elements of surf music, the more surfy elements of exotica and the creepy elements of both, along with a bit of sea and jungle danger. Add in a shrunken head or two, a refreshing Mai Tai and a Zombie (not the kind you drink…) as well as numerous scantily clad go-go wahinis and you have a pretty accurate description of the group. A favorite of the Tiki Oasis crowd and beloved in their hometown of San Diego, Creepxotica sounds just like what their name implies. Oh, and Creepxotica is the alter-ego of a well-known San Diego surf skater aggro tiki garage band. The “Creep” in Creepxotica should be enough hint for you… The group will have two new albums out on Dionysus Records in the Spring of 2017!
