Josie Cotton Invasion of the B-Girls on Dionysus Records!

Dionysus Records has released its first LP in two years, Josie Cotton Invasion of the B-Girls!

A collection of theme songs and featured tunes from a variety of exploitation films from the ’60s and ’70s, Josie Cotton Invasion of the B-Girls is a one-of-a-kind album. The LP boasts liner notes from director John Waters, who knows more about this film genre than anyone. His own song, “Female Trouble,” (from the film of the same name) is prominently featured. The track features the TOWER OF POWER horns; other featured musicians throughout include David Kendrick (DEVO, SPARKS), Paul Roessler (SCREAMERS, TWISTED ROOTS), Geza X, Kenny Lyon, and many others.

While the movies that are highlighted are often considered low-budget affairs, the production value of these versions takes many of these numbers to a new level. Among the songs on the LP are “Maneaters (Get off the Road)” from Herschell Gordon Lewis’ female biker flick She-Devils on Wheels, “Run Pussy Cat” from Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! And “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls,” both Russ Meyer exploitation classics. The theme songs from The Girl in Gold Boots, Green Slime, and Black Klansman (the Ted V. Mikels film, not Spike Lee’s) are all on board and delivered with expected Josie panache. Two songs from the giant Japanese monster genre, “Goodbye Godzilla” and “Shiawaseo Yobou” are also lovingly rendered.

Palm Springs Serenade is a vinyl compilation of the group’s favorite tracks from numerous The Martini Kings CDs, and features a guest appearance by Buddy Greco. The cover is illustrated by SHAG, with liner notes by Cocktail Nation’s Koop Kooper, printed on a thick, old-style LP jacket called “tip-on” which consists of slicks glued on board.  The LP was cut on a vintage Scully lathe using a classic Westrex 3D cutter head. The album is packaged in a poly sleeve and includes a free digital download code. The first pressings of this LP were 400 black 180 gram vinyl and 100 clear vinyl.

The Martini Kings will be performing at Don the Beachcomber on Friday, November 7 with the Hukilau Hot Shots and DJ Senior Amor!

Swinging Mademoiselle Vol 3 LP Just In From France!

V/A: Swinging Mademoiselle Volume 3 LP

The person who compiled the album PROMISES this to be the final volume of the Swinging Mademoiselle series, of which the last volume was issued 10 years ago. This LP is also a companion to Girls in the Garage Volume 12 which is available for purchase here.

Swinging Mademoiselle Volume 3 contains fabulous French female garage, psych, freakbeat and pop tracks (some from Belguim and Switzerland) recorded  between 1963 to 1972 though most fall in to the ’65 – ’68 time frame, all from vinyl singles, in superb sound quality with a fully annotated (in French and English) and illustrated insert.

SMVol3

This volume features Valery, Michele, Dorine, Arlette Zola, Dyanna, Gilels et Dominique, Josiane Rey, Marie Claire Courcel, Nicole Josy, Patricia, Monica Berg, Francine Sarall, Christine Moncenis, Groupie, Elsa Laurent, and Martine Ledug.

Please be advised that even with careful shipping from France, the sealed album jackets have a small ding in one corner. Not bad enough that it should sway you away from purchasing the record but noticeable enough to where we wanted to tell you about it.
