Ruby Dee and The Snakehandlers - Live from Austin, Texas CD

$10.95

Product Information

Live From Austin, Texas is a snapshot of RUBY DEE AND THE SNAKEHANDLERS’ metamorphosis from the Pacific Northwest to Austin, and all the changes that move brought to the band’s lineup and resulting sound. This now Austin-based roots and rockabilly combo plays a style of Americana that encompasses Texas honky tonk, Northwest alt-country, Bakersfield twang, Memphis rockabilly, Western swing and good old fashioned rock’n’roll. Produced by Jorge Harada, Live From Austin, Texas is a collection of previously released tunes, performed live in that jumpin’, rockin’ honky tonk style for which RUBY DEE AND THE SNAKEHANDLERS are so well known, as well as a few new tunes to appease the band’s many fans. With frontwoman singer/songwriter Ruby Dee and guitarist Jorge Harada backed by native Texan Jordan Teitelbaum on drums and hep cat Kevin Fox (of Deuce Coupe) on doghouse bass, this series of recordings from the Continental Club and classic Texas honky tonk Roadhouse Rags puts the band squarely in the center of what makes Texas music so satisfying to the soul: its’ live dynamism. Live From Austin, Texas showcases the bands considerable skills at playing twang the way it was meant to be heard - with attitude. Ruby’s songwriting and vocals both reflect hard won lessons in this life, while Jorge’s guitar stylings buoy her songs with just the right amount of growl and verve, all supported in palpable rhythm and time by the driving, bopping, and jumping rhythm section. Says Country Music Guide: “There is so much to listen to, you might find yourself stopping the dance and just tilting your head to catch those lyrics, those surprising, astounding, interesting lyrics. Ruby Dee is a prize.”
