{"id":2391,"date":"2011-10-07T19:48:04","date_gmt":"2011-10-08T00:48:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dionysusrecords.com\/home\/?p=2391"},"modified":"2011-10-09T21:39:25","modified_gmt":"2011-10-10T02:39:25","slug":"beyondeden2011recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dionysusrecords.com\/home\/beyondeden2011recap\/","title":{"rendered":"Beyond Eden &#8217;11 Art Event draws 5000 &#8211; Slide Show and Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusrecords.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/iieden-236.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[2391]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2392 aligncenter\" title=\"iieden-236\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusrecords.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/iieden-236-e1318034339529.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/\/photos\/thinkspace\/sets\/72157627814522364\/show\/with\/6209938923\/\" target=\"_blank\">CLICK FOR BEYOND EDEN 2011 SLIDESHOW<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Last weekend&#8217;s third annual &#8220;<em><strong>Beyond Eden Multi-Gallery Art Event<\/strong><\/em>&#8221; held at the historic Barnsdall Art Park \/ Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery in East Hollywood was vibrant and well-attended with an estimated 5000 people passing through the gallery between Saturday night and Sunday day &#8211; a fantastic turnout especially in the face of numerous competing art events and fairs during &#8220;Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980,&#8221;a multi-institutional initiative conceived by the Getty Foundation and Getty Research Institute. The success of<strong> Beyond Eden <\/strong>is further proof that the &#8220;<strong>New Contemporary Art Scene<\/strong>&#8221; (an umbrella term which encompasses Pop Surrealism, Street Art, Lowbrow, Outsider, Illustrative, Narrative and beyond )\u00a0 is a force to be reckoned in the art world now, and for a long time to come.<\/p>\n<p>The event, with its foundation planted firmly in California, the birthplace of the New Contemporary Art Scene, showcased the works of a half dozen Southern California galleries including<strong> C.A.V.E. Gallery<\/strong>, <strong>Copro Gallery<\/strong>, <strong>Gallery Nucleus<\/strong>, <strong>La\u00a0Luz De Jesus Gallery (<\/strong><em>in <\/em><em>celebration of their 25th Anniversary this year<\/em><strong>)<\/strong>, <strong>Toy Art Gallery<\/strong>, and <strong>Thinkspace.<\/strong> Live painting demonstrations took place at the entrance and bar area of the gallery. This year&#8217;s featured events included exhibitions from <strong>Cannibal Flower<\/strong> (emerging LA based artists) and San Francisco&#8217;s <strong>Spoke Art<\/strong> (the LA stop of the traveling <em>\u2018Quentin vs. Coens\u2019<\/em> exhibit) and a special showcase of Los Angeles street artists presented by <strong>Thinkspace <\/strong>and curated by local artist <strong>Euth. <\/strong>A screening of the \u2018best of\u2019 <strong>Sketch Theater<\/strong>, the online site designed to inspire creativity through time-lapsed, start-to-finish sketches from numerous artists ran continually in the gallery&#8217;s screening room. The event was topped off with a lively award ceremony, celebrating artist<strong> Anthony Ausgang<\/strong> on the 20th anniversary of his first solo show and his continued presence in the art world.\u00a0 Previous Beyond Eden award ceremonies recognized the contributions and influences of La Luz de Jesus&#8217; <strong>Billy Shire<\/strong> (2009) and artist <strong>Robert Williams<\/strong> (2010) with lifetime achievement awards.<\/p>\n<p>The event was coordinated by Thinkspace and <strong>Sour Harvest<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Andrew Hosner<\/strong> with Lee of<strong> Lee Joseph<\/strong> <strong>Publicity for the Visual Arts<\/strong> and <strong>Dionysus Records<\/strong>.
