The Cosmopolitans Un-Chained! 30th Reunion Show and Dance Party
The Cosmopolitans, acclaimed 1980’s NYC/NC New Wave party band, will perform for the first time since 1982, on Saturday August 1, 2009, at Cat’s Cradle, 300 E. Main St., Carrboro, N.C. The line-up will feature founder/songwriter Jamie K. Sims (vocals, drum), Nel Moore Nichols (harmonica, vocals), David (Itch) Britsch (guitar, vocals), Evan “Funk” Davies (drums, vocals), and new member, Cathy Harrington (keyboards and vocals).
Also on the bill will be music legends Don Dixon and Mitch Easter, who were involved in the original 1980 Cosmopolitans recordings of “(How to Keep Your) Husband Happy” b/w “Wild Moose Party” and “Dancin’ Lesson.”
This Reunion Show and Dance Party was born out of the 2006 Bacchus Archives release Wild Moose Party – New Wave Pom Pom Girls Gone Go-Go, NYC 1980-81. The CD includes MTV’s Michael Dugan’s video of “Husband Happy” with footage from the Uncle Floyd Show and Easter’s film debut as The Husband.
The Cosmopolitans caught the fancy of swinging New Yorkers at the height of the punk/New Wave era. With their Shangri-La’s attitude, their Hullabaloo choreography, their Sam the Sham spirit, and their deadpan lyrics, the Cosmopolitans surfed the New Wave as leaders of the pack of party bands. The Village Voice described them as “New Wave pom-pom girls with brains.” They brought down the house at the hippest downtown clubs such as the Mudd Club, Max’s Kansas City, CBGB’s, Tier Three, the Ritz, the Peppermint Lounge, and Irving Plaza.
