Dionysus Records announces the release of two hi-desert area artists on vinyl: Jesika von Rabbit ”Journey Mitchell” (Dionysus Records ID1233164) and Voodoo Organist “Organ Voodoo” (Dionysus Records ID1233160). Both artists will celebrate the release of their albums at the renown Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneertown on Thursday, July 9, and at BAR in downtown Palm Springs on Saturday, July 11. Albums and other merchandise will be available at both shows.

Winner of Best Front Woman at the 2015 Coachella Valley Weekly (CV Weekly) Music Awards, Jesika von Rabbit along with Todd Rutherford formed cult favorite Gram Rabbit releasing several well-received albums, netting a long list of television and film licensees, and playing successful string of shows including a main stage appearance at Coachella. Taking a break from Gram Rabbit and armed with a stockpile of songs celebrating her love of electronics, von Rabbit has created and released her first solo album;, a playful, poppy, and psychedelic ‘adult theme park-pop’ experience titled ”Journey Mitchell”.

“… Part pop princess parody, part desert gypsy, Jesika takes us on a strange trip. Journey Mitchell, is laden with new wave influenced synths, keyboard melodics and infectious dance beats… Jesika von Rabbit wants to penetrate and disturb you. The undercurrent of Gothic industrial baselines, ghostly echoes and Jesika’s hallowing voice, leaves resin in your system that will bewitch you long after the music fades.”- Coachella Magazine

“Organ Voodoo” is the exotic, hypnotic, erotic, and rhapsodic ninth album by Scott Wexton a/k/a Voodoo Organist in which he leaves behind the rough-edged blues, rock, punk, goth and vaudevillian industrial sounds of previous releases and sails into the seductive Space Age sounds of exotica. The album is influenced by his love of exotica, lounge, and space-age pop music and was inspired by artists such as Sir Julian, Enoch Light, and Martin Denny (who he shares a birthday with).

In the mid ’90s Wexton left his Detroit home for the Music City—Nashville, TN—to work with Amphetamine Reptile noise legends Today Is the Day. He eventually moved to California and ended up in the Mojave Desert. He began performing as the Voodoo Organist in 2001, has self-released several albums, and played over 800 shows nationwide to the delight of fans and press.

The first run of von Rabbit’s LP is pressed on clear vinyl and includes a vinyl only bonus track. The first run of Voodoo Organist’s LP is pressed on red vinyl. Both contain a free digital download. Dionysus Records is distributed by ILD www.ildistro.com.

dionysus_sampler_card_front_2014_4

Among the goodies in the Tiki Oasis 14: “Beat Tiki” gift bag will be a postcard containing a code which will give you access to a free 16 track Dionysus Records sampler titled Dig That Crazy Dionysus Beat! Most of the cards will be distributed at Tiki Oasis though we will be offering a limited amount to Dionysus mail order and eBay customers, until they are gone. The codes will expire on December 31, 2014.

The compilation contains tracks from current releases, not-so-current releases and some upcoming things as well! This is the first Dionysus sampler since the Top Secret Dionysus Sampler which was put together for Tiki Oasis 12.

The tracks celebrate recent Dionysus releases by Jason Lee and the R.I.P. Tides, Turkey’s Replikas who recorded an entire LP of classic Antolian garage and psych, The Satelliters (x2 2014 releases) and The Dukes of Hamburg, long out of print vinyl repressings by The Surf Teens and Avengers VI, upcoming vinyl LP releases by The Voodoo Organist and The Alika Lyman Group, a bonus track which will not appear on an upcoming 78 RPM release by Skip Heller’s Hot Five with Dionysus Records head honcho Lee Joseph on bass, tracks from last year’s vinyl releases by Creepxotica, Orchestra Superstring, and Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited, a track from a second limited blue vinyl pressing of The Beachcomber Trio‘s “Live at Kahiki” Lp and a track from an upcoming compilation of the first two Yard Trauma albums which was also the A side of  a 7″ which was the very first release on Dionysus!

Here is the track listing:

1) Creepxotica: “Bali Hai Bossa” from Haunted Bossa Nova LP/Digital
2) The Voodoo Organist – “Mojave Midnight Moonlight” from Organ Voodoo LP/Digital (Winter 2014)

The postcard artwork is actually a few years old, painted by our pal Rober Pokorny – but fit the Tiki Oasis Beat Generation theme perfectly! www.instagram.com/robertpokorny – and thanks goes to our pal Wendy Sherman at www.artslave.com for the postcard layout. We hope you enjoy the compilation and hope you buy some of these fabulous releases!

New LPs: The Satelliters + Dukes of Hamburg

Check out these new Dionysus Records releases for Summer 2014:
“More of The Satelliters” and “Liverpool Beat” by The Dukes of Hamburg!

MoreOfTheSatellitersIn celebration of the 20th anniversary of The Satelliters, Dionysus Records has just released our eighth album with the group, More Of The Satelliters, available on LP with an old-style slick on board cover, colored vinyl and digital code, as well as CD and of course digital download from all the usual places; iTunes, Emusic, Amazon, etc. On the LP and CD the group has paired nine original tunes with three classic garage-monsters in an all analogue-recording! Those of you who purchase a digital download will have to live without the three cover tune, all the more reason to buy the vinyl.

Kraut garage revival gang is back again with a brand new slab and 12 organ driven/fuzzed-out + some Byrds-esque Garage folk-rock 60’s influenced tunes. This is their 11th Lp in 20 years of wyld garage action so you better wach out! – Surfadelic Website

Also out at the same time, the new Dukes of Hamburg LP, Liverpool Beat available on vinyl only! There are two Dukes of Hamburg, both are a mix up from each-other, one from Bielefeld, Germany and one from San Francisco, USA. The story so far: In the early 90s, Thilo Pieper went to San Francisco and formed the American Dukes with ID1233158DukesOfHamburgLiverpoolBeatmembers of The Mummies, The Astronauts and The Phantom Surfers, and bassist Shannon Smith. The American Dukes toured up and down the West Coast and did two very successful European tours, then Thilo moved back to Germany and continued The Dukes in Bielfeld while the American Dukes were still doing shows. Both bands play ‘60s beat and garage with wild abandon and are inspired by  ‘60s German Beat favorites as well as early Pretty Things and other groups from the pre-psychedelic 1960s rock ‘n’ roll scene. Liverpool Beat is the first album by the German Dukes of Hamburg on Dionysus Records, following the release of three American Dukes LPs on the label in the ‘90s.

Both The Satelliters and Dukes of Hamburg have been with Dionysus since the mid’90s and in fact Thilo Pieper is the person who connected The Satelliters with Dionysus. It’s a fab honor to release records with both groups in 1014!

Get them directly from Dionysus!

Limited represses of two Dukes of Hamburg LPs!

ID123359_DukesTwistTime.600Last year when moving the Dionysus Records office I found a few boxes of empty Dukes of Hamburg LP covers. Shortly after, our old pal, Dukes of Hamburg’s  Thilo Pieper reconnected with Dionysus, giving us news that there are now two reformed Dukes, in the US and Germany, and sending over some new recordings of his version of the  group based in Bielefeld, Germany. We agreed to do a new LP and run enough LPs to fill the empty jackets for both Bad Side of July (Dukes of Earl) (around 300 copies) and Twist-Time im Star-Club Hamburg (around 400 copies) LPs. Both are available via Dionysus Records Mail Order (follow the above links)  as well as select shops and internet mail order companies… you can only get them on vinyl as there are no CD or download versions of either! The represses also have different label designs than the originals, courtesy of Thilo!

ID123377_DukesOfHamburg_BadSideThe new Dukes of Hamburg release Liverpool Beat on Dionysus will be out soon, we’ll let you know when it’s just about ready to ship!

8/15: Tiki Oasis 13 – Big Sandy, SCOTS, El Vez, Creepxotica and…

TikiOasis13FacebookCover

This year, Tiki Oasis explores the Hawaiian influence on American music. Part Americana, part Hawaiiana, Hulabilly is an American music style derived from the blending of Rockabilly and Haole Hawaiian music. The live musical entertainment at this year’s four-day Polynesian Pop festival/celebration features numerous roots and rockabilly performers, a couple of Elvis (the King of Hulabilly) salutes as well as the essential exotica / surf / instrumental sounds Tiki Oasis is known for.  DJs will be covering the gamut of these musical styles as well and this year, LuxuriaMusic.com will be featuring their DJs in the indoor marketplace.

Two current and one future Dionysus artists will be playing the event this year. Big Sandy, whose still in-print first album, “Fly Rite With” was released by the label in 1989, will be headlining the event at a special Sunday Hoedown with the legendary El Vez. Surf / Exotica creeps, Creepxotica who have released their “Haunted Bossa Nova” LP on Dionysus this year, will be playing at the Bali Hai Meet and Mingle on Thursday Aug. 15, along with The Fishermen, featuring Brian Lease, former vibe player of  ’90s Dionysus lounge sensations, Frenchy, and Tiki Oasis favorite, Kim Tsoy who will be backed up by a band including Dionysus’ Records Lee Joseph on bass. Jason Lee  and the RIP Tides, whose debut LP will be released on Dionysus, will be playing poolside on Friday. Jason Lee will be teaching a “Twang Guitar” seminar on Saturday at 1:00 PM. Dionysus Records’ Lee Joseph will be doing a DJ set of all rockabilly, poolside, on Saturday at 2:15 PM. There will be a Dionysus Records vending booth in the Outdoor Marketplace on both Saturday and Sunday.
